recent sculpture

My work exists comfortably in a collision between traditional and contemporary practice. The employment of timeless sculptural technique is augmented with an injection of colour and the incorporation of objects from studio life.

The physical bodies of the work are informed by geological formations observed in the Australian landscape. Traversing this terrain abstracted figures reference interpersonal relationships and meta physical meanderings. Coming to ground the sculptural bodies are paired with unique support structures, reflecting the tradition of the ready-made.

I engage in an extensive and physical process of modelling, moulding and casting to realise sculptural forms from simple line drawings. The work begins with the act of automatic drawing on multiple large sheets of fine paper. Then intuitively deciding on which forms to realise sculpturally I work via a process of addition and subtraction, transforming materials such as wax, plaster and wood at varied scales to arrive at the form.

Exploring the lost-wax method of bronze casting. I have undertaken extensive training in London with Bronze Age; fine art foundry and in Melbourne with Meridian; sculpture foundry. To consolidate this technical learning and my sculptural practice I have completed postgraduate studies (Art in the Public Space) with RMIT University. Currently, I support my practice working with Monash University (Art Design and Architecture) leading the technical team, and also as a Teaching Associate, guiding students through sculptural processes.

My work has recently been included in the Melbourne Art Fair, Lorne Sculpture Biennale, Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition and Sculpture by the Sea, Sydney.
